So it's been a few weeks since I posted.
I had my first OB appointment on October 15. Honestly, I would have posted about it before now, only I got a real scare from that appointment.
I went in for all the tests, the blood tests, the urine tests, the weight check, and the first ultrasound.
Well, the urine test came through with a bit of high protein, so we may have to watch it when the time comes that I don't wind up with gestational diabetes.
I had a long chat with your doctor... She is happy that I got pregnant, and we chatted a bit about possibilities in the long run (we shall not discuss what her opinion is of a lotus birth, if you want to find out what that is later, I'm sure Google will still be around). Fortunately, she did say that the hospital is willing to go with anything I want (although as I mentioned, she has some pretty firm opinions about certain things). Water births, birthing chairs, etc. So I'm pretty cool with the idea of sticking with her, since she's been my doctor for a few years now.
Your dad was there with me... Being quiet for the most part unless he had the opportunity to be skeptical, but that's your dad. ;)
But what worried me was your ultrasound. The doctor did a TV ultrasound, which is normally more able to pinpoint things than the regular variety. However, while she saw a gestational sac, she didn't see you. Just a little white dot, and she couldn't really tell anything from there. She told me to call back the next day and find out what my blood tests were, and we might schedule an ultrasound again the following week.
So the next morning I called, and when I got through, I was told that my HcG levels were at 88,000 (very good), but that they wanted me in for an ultrasound at the local hospital that afternoon. It's a very worrisome thing to have a doctor tell you they want you to come in that afternoon, period. I wasn't sure if they thought you were still in there or not.
So your dad and I both made our way to the hospital that afternoon for an ultrasound. The technician wasn't allowed to say anything to us until the doctor got a chance to see the results, so there were a few tense minutes in there before the doctor came back in. However, the doctor said you were reading a bit small, 6 weeks and 1 day instead of the 7 weeks and 4 days that I thought you were. So they turned on the "live" feed to see what was going on.
Before the doctor even said it, I said "That's a heartbeat, isn't it?" "You got it!" I could see your little body pulse with the efforts your little heart was making...
They say once you see a heartbeat, there's a 90% chance that everything will turn out just fine. You have no idea how happy I am to see that you should be just fine. You had your dad and I worried for a bit, there.
Your dad and I were at the renfaire this weekend, and then cleaning up from the festival today. He insisted on doing most of it himself, something that he normally isn't inclined to do. I think your dad really wants to make sure that your mom doesn't do anything that could possibly cause you to leave us.
I'm so glad you're still here. You may just be a little bean, but I love you already.
And we've got your first baby pictures. *smile*
